Linuxnewbie.org SETI Black Belts

What is SETI?

Their take:
"SETI@home is a scientific experiment that harnesses the power of hundreds of thousands of Internet-connected computers in the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI). You can participate by running a free program that downloads and analyzes radio telescope data. There's a small but captivating possibility that your computer will detect the faint murmur of a civilization beyond Earth."

My take:
The SETI client basically uses spare cpu cycles and works in the background, searching blocks of data brought in by a huge radio telescope in Puerto Rico. All computers are idle at some time, why shouldn't yours help to find intelligent life in the universe? Lets find some aliens!

We're a little cooky here at Linuxnewbie.org, but so what? I pity the fool that eats my cereal-MR T.
