GA Source: Interview with Loki Entertainment's Scott Draeker
Oct 7, 1999, 19:38 UTC (0 Talkbacks) (Other stories by James Hills)

"Earlier this year, with the release of a Linux version of Civilizations: Call to Power Loki Entertainment successfully converted a proven Windows game into a Linux hit. Since then, they have managed to secure rights to port several more mega-hit games including Heretic II, Myth II, Railroad Tycoon 2 and others."

"Many people not familiar with Loki Entertainment might not find these accomplishments that spectacular. However, unlike the Windows copmpanies who's products they are dedicated to porting, Loki is a Linux company and is devoted to promoting the open-source movement. They have continued to do so where IP agreements with the original developers and publishers allow it."

"Since the founding of the company in August of 1996, they have supported the open-source movement by releasing the tools they have developed while porting various games. Next Monday, October 11 at the Atlanta Linux Showcase they will continue this tradition by allowing up to 30 hackers an opportunity to spend 48 hours with the source code of their excellent port of Civilizations: Call to Power. At the end of those 48 hours they will judge each person's modifications, and award a dual-processor workstation (running Linux of course) to the first place winner."
