Dungeon & Dragons Movie

It seems only fitting that the first movie based on the Dungeons & Dragons game began with a roll of the dice.
Eight years ago, the company that created Dungeons & Dragons took a chance on an unknown 21-year-old who'd worked in film production, but had never actually directed a movie. Now, TSR, the company Dungeons & Dragons creator Gary Gygax set up to develop, sell, and market the game, thinks it's got a critical hit on its hands, and not just in the D&D; sense.
--I didn't play D&D; much, but I was a huge Bard's Tale Junkie!!! Btw they already made D&D; a cartoon--that was a loong time ago.

Ripped from WiRED, "A robotic "caterpillar" that could help rescuers find people trapped deep within the rubble of a destroyed building is the latest creation to come from a North Carolina lab.
The Moccasin II is designed to crawl through a wrecked building's water, gas, and sewage pipes, looking for victims in the event of an earthquake or explosive disaster."

Ripped form the discussion forums, "I cannot figure out how to install this program. I've been trying to locate install instructions on the SUN site and I can't find anything on it. I tried the NHFs too. I downloaded the 7 TAR files three days ago and now I'm at my wits end. If anyone knows the URL for installation instructions please tell me where it is. Please, help a newbie out."
Coral Sea responded with a great reply and I turned it into an NHF. I hope this helps some others out as well. Read it here.

We (Sensei and LinuxGirl) saw Blue Streak last night. By the way he was laughing, I think Sensei enjoyed this movie significantly more than I did.

Snagged from the discussion forums, Pirkle wrote an awesome NHF on obtaining Hi-Res X windows. XF86Setup only allows up to 1280x1024x32bpp. However, Pirkle's NHF can take you to the 1600x1200x32bpp promised land.

Ripped from WiRED, "Two biomedical engineers claim to have created the first "superhuman" speech recognition system following a breakthrough in neural network technology. If the claims pan out, the system may herald a new era of neural network computing, which has languished for a decade after failing to deliver on the promise of software that mimics human intelligence."

Linuxnewbie.org Poll Results

Which TV show would you be most embarrassed to admit that you watch?
90210: 23.36% Fashion Emergency: 20.09% Dawson's Creek: 19.16% Donny & Marie: 17.76% Touched By an Angel: 11.21% Young Hercules: 8.41% Total Votes: 214
As you can see LNO is increasing in popularity because the polls are starting to get populated about double the amount then normal.
A whopping 23.36% are most afraid of admitting that they watch 90210, well guess what, now we know :). Not really suprising, that Fashion Emergency came in a close second with 20.09% of the votes. I watch E! alot and usually leave the channel on (I leave the tv on whenever I'm on my computer--basically 24-7). So I watch it when its on, not intentionally though. I don't want to wait. I don't want to wait through another episode of Dawson's Creek which came in with 19.16% of the votes and apparently many of you do watch that show. Which is comprised of teenagers who are (16-17) that speak as eloquently as an Oxford graduate with a PhD.
Rounding out the bottom 3 were, Donny & Marie with 17.76%, Touched By an Angel with 11.21%, and Young Hercules with 8.41%. Now these shows were put in the poll as a test to see if people actually knew that they existed. Apparently there are more fans of Young Hercules then I would ever thought. :)
New poll up.

Linuxnewbie.org is 'the place' for people that are transitioning
to Linux from Windows and are having a hard time learning
how to operate, install, and getting around the OS. I
hope you find the information here useful in setting up
your new and old Linux machines.
At Linuxnewbie.org we have devised a different system
of learning Linux. Instead of following the boring HOW-TO's
and reading MAN pages, "we" would like to act as a portal
and archive all of the tips/tricks and "HOWTO's" users
have created or send in to us. These files will be laid
out in an easy to read and understandable format.
Linuxnewbie.org not only plans to bring you "Newbieized
Help Files," but "we" plan on bringing you "Newbieized
Help Files" on other OS's such as IRIX and Solaris as
well as any and all distributions of Linux.
Our Credo:
"We the newbies of the Linux community, in Order
to form a more perfect Union, establish better documentation,
insure cross platform understanding, provide for the common
computer user, promote the general goodness of Linux and
other OS's, and secure the Blessings of Linus to ourselves
and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Website
for the Linux Newbies--Linuxnewbie.org" - sensei@linuxnewbie.org
