When was the last time you had to install a new sound card on your
GNU/Linux system and just couldn't quite get it to work? Sure you know
what model it is and can even guess what driver supports it and may
even have some idea as to the IRQ, DMA and IO port it uses.
Somehow it still does not seem to work until after you have fiddled
with /etc/modules.conf and read a ton of documentation. Yeah it works
but couldn't it be a little easier to do ?
This is where HardDrake
enters the story. It is a fully GUI based tool which ties together
many of the tools already included in a GNU/Linux distribution to
automate and simplify the process of installing new hardware. Some
items will be detected, others can be selected from a drop down list.
The various IO, IRQ and such X86 annoyance settings can be adjusted
from within this interface.
As always, when GNU/Linux users re-invent the wheel, we aim to do it
better than it has ever been done before!
