Linux Mandrake Licensing
|
The Linux-Mandrake distribution, available for download on the Internet
and included on CDs 1 and 2 of the Mandrake PowerPack, contains mostly
open-source software that permits copying, modifying and redistributing.
However, certain components are not subject to the GPL/Open Source License. These applications were written and copyrighted individually and maintain their respective licenses.
For example:
Although most packages are covered under an Open Source license, certain included packages such as Netscape Communicator and XV aren't
Open-Source but are redistributable.
All improvements and add-ons introduced by MandrakeSoft are published under the General Public License (GPL).
The extra applications CDs (3 and 4) contain mostly Open-Source software and can be redistributed.
The commercial applications CDs (5 and 6) contain software from an assortment of third-party vendors is not Open-Source and cannot be redistributed.
