Linux-Mandrake 7.0 - Last minute fixes

Some users have encountered problems installing the 7.0 due to specific configurations that we did not fully test. Please use the patches included below for each scenario if it applies to you. These custom patches should enable you to complete a successful installation.

Note:

To download and save a patch, right-click on the link in your web browser and choose "Save Link As" (assuming you are using Navigator). save this file to your boot floppy making sure to keep the name "patch.pl". Then, during installation, boot from the disk as normal but type "linux patch" at boot prompt.

Autoboot users
what: can't load second stage ramdisk, or can't exec stage2
when: before starting the X graphical install, after finding the cdrom
why: the Autoboot.bat script is buggy
solution: use this Autoboot.bat

Slow 'upgrade' speed
what: it is very slow and seems to be dead-looping
when: every time you upgrade
solution: none, WAIT and all should be ok!

RAID mylex DAC:
what: can't find the devices
when: at step `setup SCSI'
solution: use this patch

USB or serial mouse incorrectly detected
what: the mouse was wrongly detected as a PS2 mouse instead of a serial or USB mouse
when: at step `select Language'
why: the kernel has some problem with some motherboards and detection for serial or USB mice may be incorrect detects a PS2 mouse is available
solution: use this patch

install freeze
what: in graphical installation mode, ther is no response at all (num lock doesn't even toggle)
when: at step `setup SCSI'
why: the kernel has some problem with some motherboards (Shuttle Spacewalker HOT-569 with S3 based video card) and freezes.
solution: either install in root and choose NO pci probe, or use this patch

Error message: "min_size" being an unknown method
what: an error message "min_size" keeps being displayed
when: at step `Setup Filesystems', in some instance of a large FAT partition
why: It seems like you have a large single FAT that the fat-resizer finds buggy. DrakX tries to detect the bounds of the FAT filesystem and forget to test the returned error.
solution: use this patch

Matrox G100
what: Matrox G100 is on the list but the X configuration doesn't recognise it.
when: X configuration
why: This card was not implemented in the distribution.
solution: either use this patch or choose "expert mode" install and when configuring X, choose "no PCI detection". During graphic card selection choose "Unlisted" and when selecting the X server pick "SVGA".

Acard SCSI card
what: DrakX tries to install module "unknown" and fails
when: at step `setup SCSI'
why: The module atp870u is not properly associated with the Acard PCI entries
solution: use this patch

computer with no PCI:
what: can't open /proc/bus/pci/devices
when: at step `setup SCSI'
solution: use this patch

EATA scsi
what: can't boot on the EATA disk or can't access the EATA disk
when: after installation, after rebooting
solution: install using this patch or add the missing alias in /etc/conf.modules (should be "alias scsi_hostadapter eata")
