Alessandro coppo - Subject: Certified Professionals (1999-10-07 17:48:41) |
I am (was) a MS Certified Professional. The problem with such qualifications are: 1) MS keeps changing the required curricula (2 radical changes in the last 15 months!!!!) so if you follow them, you keep on studying and not working (I'd rather spend my time consulting!); 2) a firm (Transcender) sell "training kits" which in fact are (as I have been told) the complete test questions set. Memorize them and go get the exam. Even my mother (who understands nothing of computers) could become MSCE or MCSD with such tools. I have decided to behave differently, forgetting about MS certifications and offering, thru my website (www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/Way/8111/) a proof of my know how by means of two (LGPL) libraries for C++ and VB (have a look at them). How many certified professionals? may be the question is: how many people who really know how to handle Windows! |
JAmes RYan - Subject: ENOUGH ALREADY! (1999-10-07 17:54:46) |
OK, I think there have been enough rebuttals. Everyone get back to work. |
Ludd Kilken - Subject: re: enough (1999-10-07 18:51:44) |
There are not enough. I mean, i have yet to see ESR's response. :) He won't be replaced by one guy--but by many people. I mainly think the kernel developers should rebut this--since this is their area. The SMP developer's response has been the best yet, for he knows what he's talking about. |

And counter propaganda IS important. I think we should thank all those who put time and effort into the rebuttals. MJL |

Scott Tetrick - Subject: zealot v. zealot (1999-10-07 20:32:16) |
This has become noise. There are very few facts in either the Microsoft stuff or any Linux community response. Show the data, and arguments can vanish. Detail improvements by measurements. There's a whole lot of subjectivity going on, in both camps. |
leo - Subject: McDonald or Microsoft ?? (1999-10-08 02:29:22) |
Microsoft is an insult to the human intelligence. Microsoft is nothing more then a McDonald of the SoftWare. And it's very bad for the health of any computer to eat that. |
Colin Walls - Subject: Comparison is with NT 4, not W2K (1999-10-08 07:47:45) |
NT 4.0 is (in some respects) more easy to deploy and use than Linux. Hence the comparison by MS. However they don't mention W2K. From all the reports I have seen it would seem that the learning curve is much higher with this. This is especially true if you are going to deploy the MS Active Directory (MAD). I suggest a variant on "Diplomat - someone sent abroad to lie for his country", namely "Marketeer - someone sent out to lie for his company". |
David Brown - Subject: Plug and Play, USB and Power Management (1999-10-08 14:42:34) |
"Linux does not support important ease-of-use technologies such as Plug and Play, USB and Power Management" Neither does Windows NT. |
