 Tae-Bo power

Make way for Tae-Bo, a workout regime that uses aerobics, dance and self-defense techniques, to help you keep fit

Tae-Bo is the latest buzzword doing the rounds in fitness circles. An acronym that stands for Total Awareness and Excellence in Body Obedience, Tae-Bo is not a martial art. It is a complete aerobics workout that teaches you how to use different muscles. Tae-Bo has been personally developed by seven-time World Martial Arts champion Billy Blanks and blends techniques in self-defense, dance and boxing with music.

Sensai Prakash Kumar, a three-time Japan Karate Association National Champion, and Technical Director of Indian Fitness Academy, teaches this new form of exercise in Bangalore. A native of Jamshedpur, Mr Kumar came to Bangalore seven years ago. He has trained under Soichi Sasaki in Karate for the last 15 years and has been groomed in the field of bodybuilding, sports weight training, and martial arts by sensei Anil Sinha who introduced Shotokan karate in India.
Winner of the National Karate title in 1993, Mr Kumar has been teaching Tae-Bo for the last three years. Recently, he conducted a fitness workshop in Bangalore to teach the public about the benefits and techniques of Tae-Bo.

“Tae-Bo is not a martial art. It is an aerobics workout that uses no defensive technique,” says Mr Kumar. As many as 60 people took part in the workshop that had four sessions.

“The workshop aimed to teach people to keep fit through Tae-Bo with minimum risk of injury,” he adds.

Mr Kumar is a certified instructor of the International Fitness Association, USA, and trains well-known players such as Asish Balall.

Prakash Kumar can be
