Seminar on dance

UNDER THE Chairmanship of Mr. L. Sabharatnam, a seminar on dance has been planned for this year's festival of Kartik Fine Arts, commencing on December 1 at Narada Gana Sabha's Sadguru Gnanananda Hall. Sudharani Raghupathi, R. Kausalya, and Manna Srinivasan will convene the four-day session, which will focus on the contribution of Serfoji Maharaja of Thanjavur to the cultural heritage of India. Mr. Justice A. R. Lakshmanan will preside over the event, while Mr. P. Shankar, Chief Secretary, Tamil Nadu Government, will inaugurate the festival.

A photo exhibition on the royal patron will be inaugurated by Vyjayanthimala Bali and a First Day special cover on Raja Serfoji will be released by Mr. U. Srinivasa Raghavan, Chief Postmaster General, to be received by Rajah Sri Babaji Raja Bhonsle Chatrapathi, Senior Prince, Thanjavur.A Harikatha exposition on Raja Serfoji will be rendered by Revathi Sankaran.

The second day's morning session will be inaugurated by the Senior Prince which will be devoted to the royal patron's contribution. The speakers include Sri T. N. Viswanathan, Telugu Pandit from the Saraswati Mahal Library, Mr. P. Perumal, conservator, Saraswati Mahal Library, Mr. T. Padmanabhan, Director, Library, Tamil University, Thanjavur and Sucheta Chapekar. The third day will be devoted to honouring contemporary composers of Tillana, Vidwan Madurai N. Krishnan, Lalgudi G. Jayaraman and M. Balamurali Krishna. The speakers on Tillana include Sulochana Pattabhiraman, R. Kausalya, Rajeswari Sainath, S. Rajeswari, Chitra Visweswaran and Saraswati Sundaresan. The final day will have a panel discussion on Bharatanatyam - Concepts and Perspectives. There will be performances in the evenings by Neena Prasad (Mohiniyattom), Sucheta Chapekar (compositions of Serfoji), Madhu Natraj (Kathak), Anita Ratnam (Nachiar), Leesa Mohanti (Odissi) and Vempati Chinna Satyam's Group (Kuchipudi Ballet - Sri Krishna Tulabaram).

Title for Nithyasree

Mr. Karthik R.Rajagopal is to be honoured at the festival, for his 50 years of cultural secretaryship.Nithyasree Mahadevan is to be awarded the title "Isaiperoli" while Uma Muralikrishna and Rama Vaidhyanathan will be presented with the title "Nadanamani"
