AN ASSORTMENT: Students try out different styles.
It was the fifth annual celebrations of Shree Natya Niketan. It held a two-day event, `Nritya Sandhya,' at Nani Kalaiarangam, Coimbatore.
Here about 70 students showcased their talents.Coached by their guru Mrudula Rai, they performed a variety of dances, both in the classical and folk styles. The programme started with a lively Pushpanjali in Nattaikurinji.
It was followed by the famous number, `Om Namah Shivaya,' from `Salangai Oli.'
In a departure from the film dances, the focus here was on the navarasas.
The girls performed a Swarajathi and the highlight of the event was the theme dance, `Tsunami.'
The moving presentation, with music and lyrics by Bhavani Kishore Kumar, spoke about the disaster caused by the tsunami.
Apart from this, some of the pieces they did included a Tulu dance, Ayyappan dance, Kummi, Rajasthani and the folk dances of Tamil Nadu.
