Words and Music

The Chicago Public Library (CPL) and the Ravinia Festival proudly bring Words and Music to the people of Chicago. Each summer, patrons may visit any neighborhood library location to pick up free lawn passes to selected concerts throughout the Ravinia Festival's summer season.  Lawn passes are made available at the beginning of the Ravinia Festival season.  Enhance an evening under the stars at Ravinia by first exploring the music collection of your neighborhood Chicago Public Library.

Chicago Public Library card-holders who are residents of the City of Chicago may obtain a limited number of Ravinia lawn passes at any neighborhood Chicago Public Library branch, the Sulzer and Woodson Regional Libraries, and in the Music Information Center on the eighth floor of the Harold Washington Library Center. The Words and Music Program allows you to learn first hand about the world of music offered at the Ravinia Festival and the Chicago Public Library.

Guidelines

• Any resident of the City of Chicago, 18 years of age or older, who has a valid Chicago Public Library card may obtain Words and Music lawn passes.
• A maximum of two Words and Music lawn passes per concert and a total of  four passes per day may be obtained at all library locations.
• Words and Music lawn passes may not be reserved in advance.

Borrowing a page from the Chicago Public Library's One Book, One Chicago, the Ravinia Festival launched One Score, One Chicago in 2003 to highlight an important piece of music each season. One Score, One Chicago gives deeper understanding of music to wider audiences, demonstrates that classical music is a living, changing art form, and connects the city through classical music.
