What your preschooler can do:
- Loves to explore the world around them
- Is full of questions
- Wants to know the names of objects and people
- Needs to socialize
- Wants to share their thoughts and have conversations
- Puts words together to make simple two-word sentences
What you can do:
- Run your finger under the text as you read
- Point out the title, the author's and the illustrator's names
- Use picture books with longer stories
- Choose books with rhyme, rhythm, repetition, pattern and prediction
- Ask open-ended questions about the story
- Introduce informational texts about things that are real, e.g. animals
