Tanker Section

From SOTS

Summary

The strategic range of ships can be increased greatly when a Tanker ship is included in modest sized fleets. Tanker sections are extermely vulnerable however. Given their cost and their lack of offensive capabilities, Tankers should be sent into the field with care.

Tankers do not allow ships to overcome limitations in FTL technology, such as the maximum range a Human vessel can make in a single node jump.

Tankers refill their main tanks at any friendly world or refinery ship. If a tanker section is destroyed and later repaired, it will start out empty. Tankers can be set to Auto-Refuel all ships in range or they can manually refuel ships using the Refuel Interface.

A Human Tanker holds enough fuel to refill 10 completely empty destroyers. Note that the amount of fuel required to fill an empty destroyer is not affected by its range. Thus the same amount of fuel is required to fill an empty Armor destroyer with standard Fission engines as to fill an empty Extended Range destroyer with Fusion engines. If a ship is not entirely empty, the amount of fuel taken from the Tanker is proportional to its expended range. Two ships with half of their range remaining require the same total amount of fuel as one empty ship.

Cruisers and Dreadnoughts will require more fuel to fill than Destroyers, but the exact amount is unknown.
