Bush's War Features Mercenaries Email Print

Martin Ross of Rockport, Massachusetts in a New York Times Letter to the Editors on October 20 had this to say:

"There is a disconnect between soldiers' lives in Iraq and the lives of the American public.  The reasons are that this is the president's war, not America's, and it is being fought with a professional volunteer army aided by corporate mercenaries.  Americans simply do not think that this war is worth the sacrifice by the soldiers.  Lies got us into this war, but truth is the only way out."

Laura Costas of Silver Springs, Maryland in her October 20 letter to the New York Times held a similar view.

Laura stated, "We don't value their sacrifice (referring to U.S. service personnel in the Iraq War).  Why?  Because most of us realize that the suffering isn't for any purpose.  The world is no calmer, the Iraqi people aren't better for our presence, and our personal liberties continue to be gambled away by leaders who talk among themselves."
