Congress Fails to Try and Stop Bush on War Despite Voter Mandate Email Print

Jay N. Feldman of Port Washington, New York in an October 25 letter in the New York Times succinctly explains how Democrats sadly demolished some aspects of democracy:

"Regrettable though it may be, it should surprise no one that President Bush `clearly plans to keep fighting the pointless war until the last day in office.'  Unfortunately, despite the 2006 congressional elections and the overwhelming anti-war sentiment among our citizens, as you state `Democrats have failed repeatedly to end the Iraq War or to substantially change its course.'"

Contrary to what Bush and his cohorts claim the U.S. is not safer.  The Iraq War has triggered worldwide recruitment of terrorists and generated a sharp decline in U.S. prestige and influence.

Oliver de Messieres of Boyds, Maryland, in a letter to the New York Times on October 25, puts the blame for the Iraq War quagmire precisely where it belongs:
