Stem Cell Line Created From Dead Embryo Email Print

Years ago, the media eagerly played out the White House talking-point drama of Bush's 'gut-wrenching' decision-making process regarding Stem-Cell research. They had no qualms about portraying the doltish oaf-in-office as a deep-thinking, tortured soul.

But when his obviously vigorous analysis concluded, there were no surprises. Bush unapologetically set forth a vast swath of disingenuous, misleading assertions designed to impale any hopes of meaningful action.

If Bush truly believed in his self-proclaimed set of 'principles' and possessed even a wisp of courage, he would have come forth and simply proposed outlawing in vitro fertilization, the source of doomed embryos that he claims need saving. Clearly that was not an option, since political suicide was unacceptable.

Instead, Bush and his followers opted to attack something that had NOTHING to do with the ultimate fate of the embryos at issue. En route, they sentanced millions of people to their ultimate death and millions more to a life of suffering.

Needless deaths from Bush decisions are not limited to Iraq.

As of Today, 2,705 U.S. troops have been killed. 19,910 have been injured. And scores more of non-military personnel, including children and the elderly (conveniently known as 'collateral damage') have been killed as a result of Operation Iraqi Liberation (O.I.L.).

These horrific numbers have rightly been the subject of thousands of articles, millions of debates, and innumerable tears.

But with all the discussion and outrage expressed about the unnecessary casualties resulting from the Bush Administration's 'War of Lies', there has been seemingly little room or energy left to deal with the potential death and devastation that will likely result from Bush's other decisions.

Which ones, you ask.

Bush: "These boys and girls are not spare parts" Email Print

"The president is not going to get on the slippery slope of taking something living and making it dead for the purposes of scientific research," explained White House spokesman Tony Snow.

Sadly, Bush is more concerned about "something" living instead of someone.

Apparently 'murder' isn't a sufficiently toxic frame for Bush's stem-cell propaganda. Now the president is Luntzing toward Hell with a whole new, but equally reprehensible, frame -- 'BODY PARTS'!

Hiding in the deep recesses of the White House, the cowardly Bush extracted his head from Cheney's ass just long enough to veto the stem-cell research bill, a move that desperately panders to social fundamentalists while potentially co-opting the lives and health of millions of real people. You know, the ones that are actually alive -- known and ignored by 'social conservatives' as the 'post-born'.

Antiabortion Oopsies in Texas Email Print

Sometimes when ideology overwhelms reality, you get oopsies.

That seems to be what happened recently in Texas when antiabortion zealots led by the Texas Alliance for Life managed to kill an effort to fund a $41 million research center the University of Texas as part of a bill to raise nearly $2 billion in bonds for the state's universities. Turns out the provision they killed would have funded something they say thay are for.
