Origins

Scrum.org is the home of Scrum, and your source for Scrum knowledge, Scrum training, and Scrum assessments. We teach people what Scrum is, how to use Scrum, and provide assessments to test knowledge of it. We also support small, learning-focused events that create valuable interactions between people.

Scrum.org was founded by Ken Schwaber, one of the creators of Scrum.  For more information about the origins of Scrum.org, click here.

Purpose and mission

Scrum.org's purpose is to improve the profession of software development so that software developers love their work and customers love working with them.

To do so, we:

  1. Maintain the consistency and integrity of the Scrum framework.
  2. Work with partners to develop curriculum that teaches people how to use Scrum.
  3. Work with trainers - using our curriculum - to help others learn to build products using Scrum.
  4. Work with people to help them improve their ability to use Scrum.
  5. Work with organizations to help them deliver more value with the products and systems they build.
  6. Promote small learning-focused events that create valuable interactions between people.

Programs

Scrum.org runs four programs:

  • Professional Scrum Master. The Professional Scrum Master (PSM) program is the first significant update of the Certified ScrumMaster program that Ken Schwaber first created in 2002. The PSM course covers Scrum basics, including the framework, mechanics, and roles of Scrum, but it also teaches how to use Scrum to optimize value, productivity, and the total cost of ownership of products. The program also includes two levels of assessment and certification. For more information about the PSM program, click here.
  • Professional Scrum Developer. The Professional Scrum Developer (PSD) program teaches students how to use modern software engineering practices to develop an increment of completed, potentially shippable functionality. Students learn to do so within the Scrum framework, working as part of self-organizing cross-functional teams to do iterative, incremental development. The program also includes assessment and certification for each targeted technology platform. For more information about the PSD program, click here.
  • Professional Scrum Product Owner. The Professional Scrum Product Owner (PSPO) program teaches people how to maximize the return on investment (ROI) and optimize the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) of products and systems. Agile Product Ownership today requires more than knowledge of how to write a User Story or manage a Product Backlog. Agile Product Owners need to have a concrete understanding of everything that drives value from their products. The PSPO course helps students develop and solidify this understanding - from early stakeholder management to release planning and delivery. For more information about the Professional Scrum Product Owner course, click here.
  • Professional Scrum Foundations. Scrum Teams succeed best with a solid foundation and this 2 day course prepares students to begin effectively using Scrum immediately. The Scrum framework, mechanics, and roles of Scrum are emphasized with a focus on practical application. This course is the perfect introduction to Scrum for anyone new to the framework. Whether your team needs a flawless Scrum launch or needs to reboot a struggling Scrum implementation, this class lays the foundation for an effective Scrum team. This course lays the foundation of knowledge needed for other, more advanced training such as Professional Scrum Product Owner and Professional Scrum Master. Providers

Scrum.org is a consortium of people and organizations interested in improving the profession of software development. We work together in a emergent manner that uses frequent inspection and adaptation to improve quality.

  • Program development partners. Scrum.org partners with companies and individuals who are experts both on Scrum and on a particular domain (e.g., .NET development, Java development) to develop its curriculum. If you are interested in developing curriculum to target new domains, including but not limited to additional technology platforms, please email us.
  • Program delivery partners. After curriculum has been developed, Scrum.org identifies and works with individuals who are able to deliver the curriculum in question. Scrum.org's Professional Scrum Trainers currently deliver its Professional Scrum Foundations (PSF), Professional Scrum Master (PSM), Professional Scrum Product Owner (PSPO), and Professional Scrum Developer (PSD) .NET and Java curriculum. For a list of current trainers, please click here. You can apply to become a Professional Scrum Master Trainer, a Professional Scrum Developer .NET Trainer, or a Professional Scrum Developer Java Trainer.
