Scrum.org Assessments

Scrum.org provides tools you can use to assess your knowledge of Scrum. The primary aim of assessment is to provide information about an individual's or a group's level of knowledge and to thereby enable improvement.

Scrum assessments are grounded in the Scrum Body of Knowledge, written by Scrum's founders Ken Schwaber and Jeff Sutherland. These materials are publicly available on Scrum.org. Scrum.org assessments use the most recent version of the Scrum Guide (English version) as the source for all questions regarding the rules, artifacts, events, and roles of Scrum. In most cases, knowledge from other sources is required including, but not limited to, that gained from personal experience.

Our assessments are developed by Scrum thought leaders with formal input from a wide range of industry experts. We collect informal input from the larger Scrum community through large-scale beta testing and our online discussion boards. We monitor assessment results on an ongoing basis, performing extensive statistical analysis to ensure the integrity of our assessment instruments.

The Scrum.org certification programs and certification requirements are built around the Scrum.org assessment process. Each of the assessments described herein corresponds to a Scrum.org certification.

The Professional Scrum Master Assessment I and II assessments measure how well individuals understand the roles, rules, artifacts, and time-boxes that bind together the Scrum framework. These assessments are intended for those who wish to achieve Professional Scrum Master Level I (Fundamental) and Level II (Intermediate) certification. The fee for PSM I is $100, and the fee for PSM II is $500. Certification requires a minimum score of 85% for each level. No class is required for certification, but the Professional Scrum Master Course is available to those looking for relevant instruction. The Scrum Open Assessment is a free, abbreviated version of the Professional Scrum Master assessment for those who are interested in testing their knowledge of Scrum, whether or not they are preparing for certification. Note that anyone who wants to take the PSM II assessment must pass the PSM I assessment first.

The Professional Scrum Developer Assessment measures how well individuals who have attended a Professional Scrum Developer course know how to develop "done" software on a team, using Scrum, on a specific technology platform. At present Professional Scrum Developer assessments are available for .NET and for Java. Eventually, these assessments will be open to the public as well. There is no fee for assessment beyond the fee for a Professional Scrum Developer or Professional Scrum Developer Plus (PSD+) Course. Each individual who achieves an assessment score of at least 90% is certified as a Professional Scrum Developer I.
