Professional Scrum Product Owner Assessment

knowledge of business agility and value delivery

The Professional Scrum Product Owner assessment measures knowledge of how to deliver value with a software product using Scrum. This assessment goes beyond core Scrum and evaluates knowledge of value drivers, stakeholder management, optimizing total cost of ownership, and tools for maximizing ROI.

At present, the Professional Scrum Product Owner assessment is open only to those who have taken a Professional Scrum Product Owner course. Assessment is based on the body of knowledge contained in the courseware and the Scrum Guide. Once the body of knowledge has been formalized as a Scrum Product Owner Guide, the assessment will be open to the public and anyone – including those who have not taken a Professional Scrum Product Owner course – will be able to be assessed.

PSPO I should be achievable by someone that knows something about Product Management, has read the Scrum Guide, paid attention in class, and thought about the implications of a non-Agile way of managing products.

The Professional Scrum Product Owner I assessment is developed and maintained by Scrum.org and its partners. Professional Scrum Trainers also contribute to the development of the assessments.

At present there is no fee for assessment beyond the fee for a Professional Scrum Product Owner course. The Professional Scrum Product Owner assessment takes 60 minutes and contains multiple choice questions; a passing score of 85% is required for Professional Scrum Product Owner I certification.

Scrum.org Assessments

The aim of assessment is to provide information and enable improvement. Assessment provides individuals with information about their level of knowledge; individuals may choose to share that information with others if they see fit. Unlike certification, however, assessment makes no public claims of competence. The Scrum.org certification processes are built around the Scrum.org assessment process.

Scrum assessments are grounded in the Scrum Body of Knowledge, written by Scrum's founders Ken Schwaber and Jeff Sutherland. These materials are publicly available on Scrum.org. Our assessments are developed by Scrum thought leaders with formal input from a wide range of industry experts. We collect informal input from the larger Scrum community through large-scale beta testing and our online discussion boards. We monitor assessment results on an ongoing basis, performing extensive statistical analysis to ensure the integrity of our assessment instruments.

Scrum.org assessments can be used for individuals, for teams, and for organizations. For more information about how to apply Scrum.org assessments on a broader basis, please click here.

* Scrum.org assessments use the most recent version of the Scrum Guide (English version) as the source for all questions regarding the rules, artifacts, events, and roles of Scrum. In most cases, knowledge from other sources is required including, but not limited to, that gained from personal experience.
