Discussion

Should we be using Dreadnaught, or Dreadnought? I think the latter, because Mecron uses that spelling and the former can also mean a garment made of thick cloth. --Bossman 10:30, 22 January 2006 (EST)

I'm a nought man myself. TheDeadlyShoe 11:30, 22 January 2006 (EST)
The definitive answer is what the game itself uses. I'll ask. --Admin 12:24, 22 January 2006 (EST)

Re: the dreadn?ught displacement issue. Two major reasons jump out at me. One: no real point defense options, two: fabulously expensive. Plus there is the support cap issue and the build time thing. I can just see it now, six dreads getting jumped on by thirty missile destroyers, what a sight that would be (granted, the planet you were fighting over would be trashed, but that's not important right now). Personally, I've been using the "a" version because that's how Arinn spelt it in her writing. But I'm the Races section home-boy, so: :P Ultimately, we go with what the game uses. But if we do end-up switching to the "o" version...well, I just hope we recognize that that'll be quite the change to impliment now that we have links to "Dreadnaughts" everywhere, and the word itself everywhere else. I'm not being stingy about it or trying to scare people away, just that we'll all need to be working together as a team on it to get it done. (Which is what we do. It's the nature of a wiki. So I'm not concerned. :) ) --The Writer2 01:42, 23 January 2006 (EST)
In the short term, we can simply Move the Dreadnaughts page to Dreadnoughts, which will create a redirect. We can fix the other links at our leisure. TheDeadlyShoe 16:29, 23 January 2006 (EST)
Aye, another reason I'm not concerned. :P --The Writer2 17:21, 23 January 2006 (EST)
I've sent an email directly to Mecron as to what the in game spelling is. Should get a response in a day or so. --Admin 18:46, 23 January 2006 (EST)
  • I chatted very briefly with Mecron yesterday. It seems like they're in full-on crunch mode or at least something is keeping them very busy. Notice that most of the K-P team has gone quiet and I'm surprised he's taking the time to post on the forum at all. I think this question will have to go unanswered for a few weeks. --Admin 21:46, 26 January 2006 (EST)
That's quite fine by me. They have far bigger fish to fry than spelling, I'm sure. --The Writer2 23:03, 26 January 2006 (EST)
Mec probably can find time to answer because IIRC he isn't directly doing much coding on the game, so he's more free to play PR guy than anyone else on the team. The website and most of the K-P staff replies on the topic use dreadnought, so I think it's safe to assume for the time being that it will be dreadnought. Not that it really matters, but it's something to do on a friday morning that isn't my philosophy reading. Cathexis 10:33, 27 January 2006 (EST)
But as lead designer he's the guy putting in all the balance tweaks until the last minute. Check out the latest dev diary over on the galciv2 site to see what Brad Wardell is up to even at this late date for his game. Oh, and Mecron is also the CEO of K-P so there's the whole running a company side as well. Anyway, I think he realizes that the best thing he can do for PR right now is to spend some time on the forums answering our questions and keeping our interest in the game. The flip side is he has time for little else, like answering my personal correspondance. :) --Admin 12:01, 27 January 2006 (EST)
