ARTISTdirect.com sat down with guitarist James Shaffer aka Munky from Korn for the latest edition of our exclusive See the Music series. Shaffer, who carries an axe in one of the most influential hard rock bands of the modern era, is currently flexing his creative muscles and rocking out with his side project, Fear and the Nervous System [Amazon link].
Shaffer opened up about the song "Silvertone," which is one of the first songs written for the project, pointing out that it has a "really creepy mood." It reminds him of something Atticus Ross would put in a movie or a soundtrack. That notion akes you want to check out the song, doesn't it?
The song also has some dreamscape sounds to the guitar, and it's full of reverb and echo.
If you like Korn, this is a bit of a different sound but it equally worth your while.
Shaffer also gave us a hint about what to expect from the group's next record. There will be less structure and more experimentalism! It will also end up being deeper and heavier.
All good things.
While ideas are forming, complete songs are not written yet.
What did you think about our See the Music segment with James Shaffer? Will you be checking out Fear and the Nervous System? Well, you should!
