Rated 4 out of 5 by quiltingfool Brother Quilting machine I own an expensive Viking sewing machine which I love, but it is too large to be carried on an airplane when I go to quilting conventions. It had become too burdensome to haul it with me on the plane, and too heavy, so I looked for a cheaper, lighter machine I could use for my annual trip to the Road to California Quilt Show in Ontario, Calif. Naturally I didn't want to spend much money on something with such limited use, but it had to have enough features such as drop down feed dogs and a 1/4" inch stitch so I could use it for classes. I have only played with it a little so far, but the manual is very easy to follow, which is very important to me, and the machine is loaded with features only found on much more expensive machines. I found the bobbin winder to actually work better then the one on my Viking. It's very light weight and I can lift it with one hand, and it will fit in any of my cases to go in an airplane overhead. It seems to sew smoothly and has many great features. For the money, I would say I have found the perfect machine, and a great value just packed with goodies, such as several presser feet including the "big foot" and the free motion foot. It also came with a hard case and a larger table for quilt sewing. I researched many machines before settling on this one, and I'm very happy with it so far. Still lots of things to learn about it, and much to explore, but its a great little machine. 02/14/2008

Rated 5 out of 5 by ckhamster Lots of features and affordable! I have been sewing for seven years now, and I bought this machine on a very limited budget when my grandmother's machine quit. It was reviewed by Consumer Reports as a good product and has all the features I need to make clothes, quilts, mending, misc. stuff around the house. I have two daughters, so I make a lot of dresses and coats. It is very easy to use and has many decorative stitches. I like that I can adjust the presser foot to accomodate several layers of fabric, and I can set the machine to stop with the needle down every time I stop sewing (or you can set it to end in the up position). It also weighes a bit more than the next step-down model offered by Brother, so I am hoping this one is made of more metal parts, and not so much plastic. :-) I am very happy with this machine. 01/24/2008
