a\/c always break in the hottest week of the year..
Yes, middle of August and my 8 year old 13, 000 btu gave up the ghost and it got really hot around here for two days. Two days! I was amazed when my new a\/c was delivered in 2 days !!! (from WalMart) The set up was easy and in an hour I had it installed and cooling down. (I am female, 72 yrs old) This little 5,000 btu is cooling better and quieter than the old one. I am totally impressed and would recommend it to anyone. In fact I am thinking of buying another one.
I've only had this for about 3 weeks. I researched the de-humidifier on Consumer Reports before purchase. I've never had a de-humidifier before, so I had nothing to compare this model to. For people who like absolute quiet in a room, then this model is not for you. However, I'm used to fans and window air conditioners, so I don't mind the noise. My second concern was that, even though it was highly rated by Consumer Reports, I read lots of reviews about the longevity of the product (amoung other models as well). I decided to purchase the 3-year Wal-Mart warranty. Will review again if I experience any problems.
I have only used the heater function so far but it works great in my shop. Quickly heats a 750 sq ft room and cycles off and on infrequently saving electricity. Quiet operation and is everything the information about the unit claims is correct.
I bought the biggest heat cool unit out there and this is it. This this is heavy. It is a 220 30 amp Nema 6\/30 plug which this website doesn't tell you. Works nice in my garage that is 1100 sq ft. It keeps it a decent temperature in the 80s even without any insulation when its 110 out in Texas summers. Looking forward to trying the heater out this winter!
I have a very old dehumidifier and decided to upgrade to a more energy efficient model. I live in a ground floor apartment, it's similar to a damp basement. While everyone else is buying a humidifier due to dry winter air, I am wiping condensation off all my windows. I was thrilled over the price, especially compared to other 50 pint dehumidifiers. Only disappointment- it seems to work at a much slower pace than the 25-30 year old energy-sucking unit. In comparison, I am grateful for the auto-defrost!
To begin with I work Nights and sleep in the day time. This A\/C have Styrofoam that blocks the outside from the inside part of the A\/C. Normally when the sun will come up the light will pass thru the Styrofoam and light up your bedroom. I don't like this at all I want a dark Bedroom So what I did was Take the cover off and removed the top part of the Styrofoam the bottom part you can't I got Simply Spray Color Black from Walmart in the craft isle This is a water based paint. I than sprayed the lower part as much I could it can be messy and than sprayed the upper part separate from the A\/C. When the paint dried I put the Styrofoam back together and put cover and front Grill back on Have checked by shinning a light from the back and have so far seen not light leak thru Will be putting this A\/C in Window Monday And hope that this will work. I also have a 6000 same as this that I did the same thing too. but plan to use the 8000 due to better cooling output
This seems to be a good air conditioner. It cools our 900 square foot main floor and does a good job. It can keep it at 70 or 71 in 90 + weather. We have been running nonstop for weeks and no issues whatsoever.\n\nVery hard to put together. At least for us. We did finally do it, my hu
I bought this AC in winter and finally got a chance to use it for about 2 weeks or so now. One thing for sure is that it really cools a place down fast, even on the low setting and keeps it cool. It is a no frills AC so dont expect digital read outs. It keeps my 1 BR apt cool including the bedroom and the AC is mounted in the livingroom wall. Im on the upper floor and it gets pretty toasty here in the warm weather. My only remark is that the AC is pretty loud when operating but not so loud that you cant compensate by turning up the tv or radio. All in all, for the price its well worth it.
Generally, a good value, but with some surprises. I installed this unit in our 14L x 14W x 10H bedroom about a week ago. It is only 16 inches wide, narrow enough to fit in our slider window. It has no trouble maintaining the room at 60 degrees, although it's not yet summer weather and the rest of the house has central air that is maintained at 70 degrees. Two primary reasons I wanted to replace our 20 year old 12,000 btu window mounted Frigidaire was to have an AC with a thermostat and one that ran quieter than our old unit. Well, the thermostat works great, turning the compressor cycle off and on automatically to maintain the desired room temperature. But, it's not as quiet as I had hoped, having nearly the same decible level as our old AC. For someone who likes a quiet bedroom for sleeping, this AC, or perhaps any window AC, may not be what they are searching for. The filter has a mesh size about the same as a screen door, so I tape an 8 x 12 inch piece of furnace filter over the air intake to achieve the air filtration purposes for our allergies. Overall, however, I rate the FRA054XT7 Frigidaire AC as a good buy.
I put it in my dining room which is between my living room area and kitchen. I was afraid it wouldn't cover the area, but find that once it gets going it pretty much does the trick. For those weeks of extremely hot, HUMID days we had recently in Western NY it was a God send. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 was because of the noise, but for such a large unit that is to be expected. My brother installed it for me, and like what was stated in the reviews I had read before I purchased it, you have to improvise the window kit a little to fit but not much of a problem. Also, one reviewer said they were waiting for an electrician to come and put in a new line for it. I'm not sure what they were talking about as it doesn't require a dedicated line. I would recommend this unit.
This product works well. It cools, has a nice remote, looks good and is relatively quiet for a large unit. I purchased this unit because it fits my application and my existing opening and could be quickly installed during a hot South Florida summer. I am aware from past experience that it is not designed or constructed to the quality standards one expects from this type of major appliance. The first unit of this model I purchase lasted 4 years. The one I am now replacing lasted 16 months. Frigidaire customer service is far from impressive. They give you an 800 number to call which directs you to call a non 800 number. The long hold times suggests that problem products may lead a lot of customers to call. I suggest shopping carefully to find an air conditioner that will fit your needs that is not so likely to corrode and fail in a short time. The sheet metal cabinet will quickly corrode as will the components in the base of the unit, including the coils. The unit arrived with a damaged cabinet. It was frustrating getting a replacement and the replacement which appears to be usable arrived with some minor damage. The reason for the cabinet damage is the item is constructed from light gauge metal that will rapidly corrode. I have installed and lived with many air conditioners in the same environment and never have encountered anything like the inferior construction of this Frigidaire unit. The unit fits in the cabinet I now have installed. The cabinet is the sheet metal enclosure into which the unit slides in and slides out. That cabinet was installed with the first unit 5 years ago and is falling apart from corrosion and will be replaced. The ease of installation explains why I knowingly purchased a such an inferior product. It does work very well during its short life span.
I purchased this unit in May 2012. I used it to cool my apartment for almost four months. I started using the unit's supplemental heating feature in September 2012. At that time, I noticed that whenever the temperatures outside plunged BELOW 45 degrees Fahrenheit, a BURNING SMELL would come from the unit while operating in the supplemental heat mode... and when that happens, the unit provides little to no heat whatsoever! The unit indicates that its supplemental heating feature provides you with an aditional heat source "when needed." But what it SHOULD indicate is that its supplemental heating feature provides you with an aditional heat source "only when the outside temperatures are above 45 degrees Fahrenheit." When I brought this issue to the attention of the manufacturer of this unit (Electrolux Major Appliances), the manufacturer completely disregarded the issue! I had to contact a DIFFERENT air conditioner manufacturer (Friedrich Air Conditioning Co., Ltd.) in order to find out the TRUTH about HEAT PUMP air conditioner/heater units! This unit is a HEAT PUMP heating unit, rather than a STRAIGHT ELECTRIC heating unit. STRAIGHT ELECTRIC heating units can operate efficiently EVEN WHEN OUTSIDE TEMPERATURES ARE BELOW 45 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT. This unit is NOT a STRAIGHT ELECTRIC heating unit, but is instead a HEAT PUMP heating unit, which means that the outside temperatures must be 45 degrees Fahrenheit OR HIGHER in order for this unit to operate. According to Friedrich Air Conditioning Co., Ltd., attempting to use HEAT PUMP heating units when outside temperatures are below 45 degrees Fahrenheit will OVERWORK THE COMPRESSOR and can cause a BURNING SMELL to come from the unit while operating... essentially shortening the lifespan of the unit. So if you are looking for a unit that can provide supplemental heating IN MORE EXTREME COLD TEMPERATURES, then this is NOT the appropriate unit for you!
Purchasing this Frigidaire 10,000 BTU window air conditioner turned out to be everything I hoped for & even more! I am really pleased with the options it has, such as, remote control, 8 different directional ways to adjust the louvers, the 3 cooling options, like vent, fresh air & cool air. Also want to mention the 3 fan speeds plus the auto fan speed it has on it. I would definitely recommend this item! Easy to install & runs quiet! It is a little too heavy for a woman to install, but a man could do it with no problem in my opinion. I really love it!!
