Lately I have been obsessed with amigurumi!
What is amigurumi?
Amigurumi (編みぐるみ?, lit. crocheted or knitted stuffed toy) is the Japanese art of knitting or crocheting small stuffed animals and anthropomorphic creatures. The word is derived from a combination of the Japanese words ami, meaning crocheted or knitted, and nuigurumi, meaning stuffed doll. Amigurumi are typically animals, but can include artistic renderings or inanimate objects endowed with anthropomorphic features, as is typical in Japanese culture.
From Wikipedia.
Inspired by knittingdream's bears I decided to make one of my own! It was actually an easy project, since the basic stitches for making an amigurumi are 3, the chain stitch (ch), the single crochet stitch (sc) and the slip stitch (sl st). Also, one should know how to increase (inc) and decrease (dec) in single crochet (sc).
So let's begin...
MATERIALS:- White acrylic yarn
- 2.5 mm crochet hook
- Yarn needle
- Black embroidery floss
- Safety eyes (I used two black beads, since I couldn't find safety eyes anywhere n Thessaloniki :( )
- Felt (white for the muzzle, brown and yellow for the bow)
- Fibrefill
- Dog slicker brush
- Glue gun
- Stitch marker (optional)
The whole project is worked in spirals, in the round that is.
HEAD:
R1: Ch 2 then make 6 sc in second ch from hook (6)
R2: 2 sc in each stitch around (12)
R3: 1 sc , 2 sc in next stitch, repeat 6 times (18)
R4: 2 sc, 2 sc in next stitch, repeat 6 times (24)
R5: 3 sc, 2 sc in next stitch, repeat 6 times (30)
R6: 4 sc, 2 sc in next stitch, repeat 6 times (36)
R7: 5 sc, 2 sc in next stitch, repeat 6 times (42)
R8: 6 sc, 2 sc in next stitch, repeat 6 times (48)
R9-13: sc around (48)
R14: 1 dec, 6 sc, repeat 6 times (42)
R15: 1 dec, 5 sc, repeat 6 times (36)
R16: 1 dec, 4 sc, repeat 6 times (30)
R17: 1 dec, 3 sc, repeat 6 times (24)
Now you will make your teddy fuzzy. See Roxycraft's tutorial or Planetjune's fuzzy crochet for the how to. Attach the safety eyes. Begin to stuff your head.
R18: 1 dec, 2 sc, repeat 6 times (18)
Continue to stuff.
R19: 1 dec, 1 sc, repeat 6 times (12)
R 20: 6 dec (6)
Fasten off and weave in ends. Brush the bottom part of the head.
BODY:
R1: Ch 2 then make 6 sc in second ch from hook (6)
R2: 2 sc in each stitch around (12)
R3: 1 sc , 2 sc in next stitch, repeat 6 times (18)
R4: 2 sc, 2 sc in next stitch, repeat 6 times (24)
R5-9: sc around (24)
Brush your teddy's body to get it all fuzzy, and start adding stuffing.
R10: 1 dec, 2 sc, repeat 6 times (18)
Continue to stuff.
R11: 1 dec, 1 sc, repeat 6 times (12)
R12: 6 dec (6)
Fasten off and weave in ends. Brush the bottom part of the body.
EARS:(make 2)
R1: Ch 2, 6 sc in second ch from hook. (6)
R2: 2 sc in each sc around. (12)
R3:
1 sc , 2 sc in next stitch, repeat 6 times (18)
R4-7: sc around (18)
Fasten off and leave long tail for sewing onto the head. Stuff and sew open end together. Brush yarn using dog slicker brush. Attach to top of head.
ARMS:(make 2)
R1: Ch 2, 5 sc in second ch from hook. (5)
R2: 2 sc in each sc around. (10)
R3-7: sc around (10)
R8: 8 sc , 1 dec (9)
R9-11: sc around (9)
Stuff the arms, sew open end together and attach to point where head meets the body.
LEGS:(make 2)
R1: Ch 2, 6 sc in second ch from hook. (6)
R2: 2 sc in each sc around. (12)
R3-7: sc around (12)
R8 : 10 sc, 1 dec (11)
R9-11: sc around (11)
Stuff the legs, sew open end together and attach to bottom of body.
Note: If you want you can brush the arms and legs as well.
MUZZLE:
Cut a round piece of white felt and embroider the nose and mouth using black embroidery yarn.
