AudioPorn Records Label Biography

AudioPorn Records, the brainchild of celebrated producer, Shimon Alcoby was launched in 2007, and has quickly established itself in the Drum and Bass scene as a label at the forefront of creativity and new talent. Its success can be traced back not only to its impressive artist roster such as Dirtyphonics, Tali, Moving Fusion, Ant Miles, and Camo & Krooked, but also to its creator and owner, Shimon.

Having been a huge contributor in the growth of Ram Records for over a decade, Shimon was an integral part of the label from 1994 through 2005 releasing anthem after anthem with hits such as ‘Quest’, the instantly recognizable ‘Hush Hush’, the infectious ‘Body Rock’, and the hugely popular ‘The Shadow Knows’. He also made up one-third of the super-group Ram Trilogy, alongside Ant Miles & Andy C, releasing a torrent of chart-topping tracks such as ‘Chase Scene’, ‘Gridlock’, ‘Titan’, ‘Beastman’, and ‘Screamer’, helping to build the iconic reputation the label enjoys today.

For most people that would be enough, but Shimon's desire to push himself and start anew made him leave the comfortable surroundings of Ram, and instead begin a brand new record label, AudioPorn Records. Taking on this daunting task did not come lightly, but for Shimon it was the only way to fully realize his creative ambitions. Set up to improve on the sound he helped create with Ram, as well as push a fresh exciting sound, AudioPorn was founded with its main aim to produce, "beautiful and aggressive energy" that got Shimon into Drum and Bass in the first place.

The fledgling label hit the ground running with releases from Shimon, Matrix, and Sparfunk, as well as a return by the mighty Ram Trilogy. In the following years, AudioPorn quickly forged a reputation as one of the most creative labels in the scene and also broke in a variety of new artists along the way. As well as a platform for his own work, AudioPorn became a hot bed for new talent, being the label first to discover Dirtyphonics. After the releases of ‘French Fuck’ and the genre-breaking ‘Quarks’, Dirtyphonics released one of the labels biggest releases to date, the modern-anthem, ‘Vandals’.

"It started as a rave, it ended in a riot"... the phrase has become part of Drum and Bass pop culture and made ‘Vandals’ an instantly recognizable club anthem, still holding the #1 sport on Beatport’s all-time classics chart. This was followed by another classic, ‘Teleportation’, which stayed put in many top DJs record box for well over a year. The French quartet have since gone on to tour the world with their much talked about live performances, as well as some big name remixes for the likes of Nero, ShockOne, The Bloody Beetroots, Does It Offend You, Ya?, and Skrillex.

Showing the labels versatility and ability to release cross-over genre hits, Camo & Krooked made a guest appearance on the label with the #1 hit, ‘History Of The Future’. Meanwhile, label boss Shimon also reunited with fellow Ram alumni Ant Miles & Moving Fusion on ‘Pimp Slap’, as well as putting out a single which included Tantrum Desire’s dancefloor remix of ‘The Smoker’, backed with ‘Vengeance’, a 2-step hit modeled after the swing-beat made famous by ‘Body Rock’.

In early 2011, AudioPorn announced the eagerly anticipated album ‘Dark Days, High Nights’ from MC Tali, the world’s most famous female MC. Another mammoth project, it teams up the undisputed lyrical prowess of MC Tali with a whole host of renowned producers from the scene, including Ed Rush, Dirtyphonics, Benny Page, Skism, Sparfunk, Fourward, and more.

However, much like his own desire to move on to bigger things, Shimon's label is also adamant not to rest on its laurels. The recent signings of Xilent and High Maintenance also underline AudioPorn's commitment to discover new talent. Xilent's ‘Choose Me II’ was featured as Zane Lowe's ‘Next Hype’ track on his Radio1 show, as well as getting over a ½ million views on YouTube, in only two weeks! Whilst High Maintenance has been causing a stir in the scene with his recent remix of Tali’s ‘Dark Days’, and a forthcoming single on the label. With these exciting new additions to its already formidable roster, AudioPorn shows no signs of letting up.
