Director Pawan Wadeyar makes his enchanting debut as hero in Preeti Geethi Ityadi. Another Yograj Bhat camp man Veerendra makes his debut as director. As has become usual with the Yograj Movies banner an unusual storyline is taken. The other recent movie from this banner was Dyavre which was critically acclaimed. PGI as the name shows is not just a romance story. Though the title suggests a playfulness there is a purposeful and serious story in it.
The film starts with an accident. Pawan Wadeyar who is called by the same name in the film and his sister cause an accident. They escape from the spot. When Pawan returns the body is missing and he reaches the hospital to find the victim dead. But it is the family members of the victim that causes him guilt.
He decides to hlep them but it is a tough task. He also falls in love with the daughter of the dead man. In time there is great conflict between his guilt and love for the girl. How he overcomes forms the crux of the story.
Pawan Wadeyar has the experience of directing hit movies and there definitely was pressure on him to show that he can act as well. He does that with ease. Since the film does not go overboard in its emotional scenes, there is no melodrama and therefore there is restrained acting by not just Pawan but all actors as well. Director Veerendra has managed to show subtle emotions in not just in love scenes but also when it comes to betrayal, guilt, remorse and the sorrow of a family who have lost their loved one. There is real chance of such emotions overpowering the film and the story and making the film a tearjerker. But Veerendra avoids these pitfalls and despite the drama and emotional playup the film remains a playful romance. That is why it should win big with the young audience.
Apart from Pawan and Veerendra, the other people whose work makes the film good are composer Veer Samarth (who also gives a beautiful background score), heroine Sangeetha Bhat and the supporting cast led by Vinaya Prasad and Rangayana Raghu.
