Ravichandran is back with one of his best films. Drushya is an entertaining and engrossing thriller that will rank among one of his best films. Director P Vasu brings the Malayalam hit to Kannada before it has been remade in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi. There is never a dull moment in this film and each scene is new and shows no trace of the regular kind of entertainment films. The film is one of those rare ones that is intelligent as well as commercially entertaining. After a long time you will find audience applauding after the last scene on the screen.
Ravichandran plays a cable operator in a small Coorg town. His character, Rajendra Ponnappa, lives with his wife and two daughters. He saves money on every issue. But his family loves him and they are the example of a perfect family. A constable is always troubling Rajendra because his bad deeds are made public by Rajendra. He is waiting for a chance to 'fix' Rajendra. Rajendra's daughter attends a nature camp and when she returns the son of a top police officer stalks her with a damaging video of her. He is killed when the daughter and mother are trying to save themselves. How Rajendra with all his knowledge acquired from watching movies saves his family from the police forms the rest of the story. The thriller keeps the audience on the edge till the very end.
The screenplay is the king here. Ilayaraja's music pumps up the film's tempo and there is no looking back from the interval onwards. There is some amazing performance by Achyuth Kumar. He deserves an award for this performance. Ravichandran and Navya Nair as a middle-aged couple still manage to show romantic glamour. Ravichandran has taken a bold step to act in this character and gets a well-deserved good film. It will be a surprise if this film is not a big hit.
