Summary

Each Repair and Salvage ship can undo a certain amount of damage to other ships, per turn.

The salvage part of a Repair and Salvage ship has a very small chance of recovering information about new technologies after a battle. You can salvage wreckage and orphaned sections from the destruction of alien ships and you can salvage infrastructure from destroyed colonies. This requires that you be in control of the battlefield after combat, meaning that you will need to either see the win dialog or have a decisive advantage when you see the draw dialog at the end of combat. Additional salvage ships at the system will improve your chances of being able to salvage something.

Zuul do not need a salvage vessel to recover technology, though they have a better chance of recovering a technology with a salvage vessel in the fleet. Also, Scavenger Slave Disks and Wraith Abductors also have a chance of stealing a technology from a planet after a raid, with the Abductors having a smaller chance.

The repair part of a Repair and Salvage ship can only restore a set amount of function to other ships in each strategic turn, requiring you to choose wisely which ships you will repair with them. Repairing is not affected by any ongoing salvage operations.

AMoC allows Repair and Salvage ships to build Spy Ships once Sub-Space Spy Beams have been researched.
