Prix Italia and "The Future in the culture of legality"

"The future in the culture of legality".

A strong topic pervading all our lives and every human activity will be discussed during the 64th edition of Prix Italy, to be held in Turin from September 16th until September 21st.

In fact, on Sunday afternoon the historical Sabaudian city will be hosting Anna Maria Cancellieri, Italian Minister of the Interior, who will be holding a lectio magistralis on The Culture of Legality in the Aula Magna of the University.

Forty young adults who live in difficult situations and participate in the Progetto Sicurezza will be at her side. Their presence will be testifying to powerful commitment in the battle against the Mafia.

The “Programma Operativo Nazionale Sicurezza per lo Sviluppo – Obiettivo Convergenza 2007-2013” programme aims at improving safety, law and legality conditions for citizens and companies in those regions (Calabria, Campania, Puglia and Sicily) where crime greatly hinders economic development. “A fundamental role is played by television, radio and the Web in raising the awareness of younger generations”, said the Minister, “and the attention of Prix Italia towards our projects for young adults goes in this direction”.

As added by Giovanna Milella, who conceived the event and is its curator in addition to being the Secretary-General of Prix Italia: “…since lawfulness and respect for dignity are at the foundation of every culture, I am honoured to welcome these young people to the city of Turin. I wish to dedicate the 2012 edition of Prix Italia to them, with all my heart”. Giovanna Milella continues: “I have chosen this topic (and thank Minister Cancellieri for all the availability demonstrated) because corruption, collusion and the links between dirty money and the economy all over the world are bringing society to its knees and subtracting resources from employment and culture. In this respect, a few days ago the Obama Administration declared a broadside of harsh new sanctions against the Camorra and other trans-national criminal groups. This will be done by freezing their assets in American jurisdiction and by prohibiting all Americans from carrying out transactions with them since these could harm the stability of international political and economic systems.''

“Since it is only by attacking these powerful organizations at their roots”, concludes the Prix Secretary-General, “and keeping them from making their way into the fabric of advanced societies can we finally reconstruct peaceful coexistence, strong growth and younger generations can return to being the protagonists of their own future”.

Again regarding the subject of legality, a preview will be screened on Sunday afternoon of the Rai Educational programme entitled "Lezioni di mafia" (Mafia Lessons). The event envisages the participation of Silvia Calandrelli, Director of Rai Educational and Pietro Grasso, National Anti-Mafia Prosecutor who will be discussing all the secrets of the most powerful and bloodthirsty crime organization in the world for the first time on television.

A television series with inside glimpses at affiliation rites, criminal biographies, regulations, daily life, governing mechanisms, crimes, connivance with Cosa Nostra, evil intrigues between State and Mafia, the future and the new capitals of the criminal empire.

Before the traditional inaugurating concert broadcast live in Eurovision and Euroradio from the Auditorium Toscanini, with the RAI National Symphony Orchestra conducted by Juraj Valcuha, a meeting will be held at 6:00 p.m. in the Aula Magna of the Turin University. Participants in the meeting will be Hon. Francesco Profumo (Minister of Education, Universities and Research), Jean Paul Philippot (President of the European Broadcasting Union, EBU), introduced by Claudio Cappon (CEO of Rai World and Vice-President of the European Broadcasting Union, EBU).

The meeting will be focusing upon European public radio-television services, dealing with recent challenges involving technological change and the crisis of public resources. How these services are redefining their identity and their raison d’être. Delving into this topic, the meeting will attempt to understand whether consistency in values, distinctiveness in offers, support to the national cultural and creative system might be the right directions to take along this path. And, within this context, how one might imagine the development of a fruitful relationship with the world of education and science.
