Not enough women at IIMs: Naina Lal Kidwai

KOLKATA: HSBC India country head Naina Lal Kidwai on Saturday lamented the dearth of women management graduates at IIMs.
"I am sorry to say that IIM ratios are not where they should be. They are at 20 per cent whereas for schools like Harvard, they are 50:50. If they can do it then why can't we," Kidwai, also HSBC Asia-Pacific director, said at the launch of the book "30 Women in Power, their Voices, their Stories".
Kidwai, who has edited the book that narrates the journey of India's top women achievers, noted that the skewed ratio needs to be balanced at the university to ensure more gender diversity at the workplace.

"We need more women at IITs and IIMs so that companies can hire more women. Even at the senior management levels, there are not many women," she added.

Intel's vice president, sales and marketing and vice president, South Asia, Debjani Ghosh, who also features in the book, observed that women in technological start-ups are more common but overall their numbers in start-ups are less.
