Editorial Guidelines



These editorial guidelines are designed to help you understand what THEFREELIBRARY.COM expects from you as an author. Before submitting your article(s), please read this page.

Article submissions are subject to the following restrictions:

Article formatting and links: We strongly recommend that submissions to THEFREELIBRARY.COM be copied and pasted from a text editor like Notepad or TextPad. This will ensure that paragraph breaks, line length and other basic formatting will be managed properly by THEFREELIBRARY.COM article submission software.

Article title: Maximum 300 characters. Your Title MUST Be In Upper and Lower Case Letters With The First Letter of Each Major Word Capitalized. Do not put quotation marks around the entire title. Do not use author name, URLs, or HTML tags of any kind in your title. Please do not repeat your title or the author name in the article body or summary.

Article summary: Maximum 1,500 characters. Every article should have a 2-5 sentence article summary. This abstract should summarize your article’s content in a concise yet thorough manner.

Keywords: Maximum 1,000 characters. Listing the main keywords related to your article’s subject matter will help users find your article.

Article body: Maximum 50,000 characters. Each article must have proper English spelling, grammar, punctuation, capitalization, and sentence structure. Your article must also be proofread and double-checked for accuracy. When posting an article for which existing source material has been used, please include a Works Cited section to ensure that quotes and ideas are appropriately attributed. Failure to do so may be considered plagiarism. Copyrights must be placed at the bottom of your article. If you put copyright information at the top of your article, we will move it to the bottom of the article body. If you choose to include a reprint rights statement in your article, it also must be at the very bottom of your article. Again, if you put it at the top, we will move it to the bottom. Please be aware of both our Publisher Terms of Service as well as our Author Terms of Service when you write your reprint rights statement, as we will not accept articles that have reprint rights statements that conflict with any of our terms.

  • <a href> Note about links:
    • THEFREELIBRARY.COM allows a maximum of four (4) "self-promoting" URLs in your article. Please try to confine your “self-promoting” URLs to your Author Signature section.
    • There is a total active link limit of eight (8) active links per article. In addition to four (4) "self-promoting" URLs, you are allowed a maximum of four (4) non-self serving links.
    • We do not accept articles with URLs in the first three paragraphs or above the fold of an article.
  • Also allowed: <ul>, <ol>, <li>, <dir>, <sup>, <sub>, <blockquote>, <cite>, <center>, <hr> tags
Submissions must NOT:
  • Be a press release, advertisement, self-promotion, or hype.
  • Contain pornography/adult material or hate/violence-oriented content.
  • Suggest racial intolerance, have an obscene, insulting, or degrading tone, or contain excess profanity.
  • Contain any content that is a violation of any law, or can be considered defamatory, libelous, or infringing on the legal rights of others.
  • Contain information on: pirating, hacking, cracking, bomb creation, support for terrorism, radicalism, religious fanaticism, illicit drugs or drug paraphernalia, steroid use or advocacy, weapons, brass knuckles, firearms, ammunition, or the promotion of hard alcohol, tobacco-related products, or prescription drugs.
  • Include a reply to a personal email, letter or other correspondence.

Author signature: Maximum 500 characters. In this section, authors may include information about themselves, as well as a maximum of four (4) “self-promoting” URLs. Please note that these URLs are included in your total limit of eight (8) active links per article.
