Maoists picket Singhadurbar, DAOs across the country.

KATHMANDU, May 9 -- The cadres of the agitating UCPN (Maoist) besieged the Singhadurbar-the country's main administration complex- and District Administration Offices (DAOs) across the country as part of their protest on Sunday demanding that the current UML-led coalition government be replaced by a new national government under their party's leadership.

The Maoists blocked all four entrances of the main government administration where all important ministries including the Prime Minister's Office are situated, preventing the ministers, government officials and service seekers from entering their office.

Also today, the Maoist cadres staged sit-in outside the District Administration Office (DAOs) across the country as part of their protest against the government.

Thousands of Maoist cadres took part in the sit-in outside Singhadurbar area today.

Transportation was largely affected in the capital due to the Maoist agitation in the capital while it has come to a grinding halt around Singhadurbar area due to the Maoist protest.

The Home Ministery administration deployed a huge number of security personnel to avert the worsening of the situation and to thwart the Maoist cadres from entering the prohibited zone. However, Maitighar area remained tense during which around a dozen including Maoist cadres and police personnel were injured.

The agitators vandalised a vehicle belonging to human rights activists and manhandled Avenues Television cameraperson and snatched his camera.

The Maoists, which had enforced the nationwide shutdown all through the last week bringing the entire nation to a complete standstill, changed its agitation strategy late on Friday and decided to lay siege to Singhadurbar and stage sit-in outside District Administration Office across the country.

Paying heed to calls from several quarters including national and international community, the agitating Maoist called off its indefinite agitation on Friday night.

Some government ministers and high level official however managed to enter Singhadurbar early morning today.

The Maoists, who dislodged from the government under their leadership after their attempt to sack the then army chief was foiled by President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav's move, which they say was unconstitutional, have been clamoring for the formation of a new national government under their leadership.
