Six cars in two road crashes.

COMMUTERS were ground to a halt yesterday evening as several road accidents caused major bottlenecks.

Motorists driving towards Huddersfield from Halifax on the Calderdale Way southbound carriage were stopped after a threevehicle crash near Ainley Top.

The crash involving a white Volkswagen Tiguan, grey Polo and a red Audi A5 left one of the two lanes shut, causing tailbacks.

There were no known injuries.

There was more misery on the M62 westbound as rush-hour drivers got caught in tailbacks from Ainley Top back to Chain Bar for the M606.

Another three-vehicle crash caused three lanes to be closed at one point, before gradually re-opening one by one.

A police spokesperson confirmed a driver in a Ford C-Max in his late 30s was injured in the collision.

Twitter user Chloe Peel wrote:"Thinking if I'd have left work a few seconds later I could be one of those cars in the pile-up on the M62 right now. Fine margins, scary."

An ambulance attended the scene and the car and two vans were moved into the hard shoulder by police before traffic slowly eased.
