Botswana Investment and Trade Centre (BITC) has announced that Botswana companies will be participating at the Maputo International and multi-sector fair, FACIM, in Maputo, Mozambique starting August 29th – September 2nd 2016. According to BITC, the export mission is part of its ongoing efforts to assist local companies in accessing outside markets to sell their goods and services.  

The Mayor of Francistown Sylvia Muzila has urged the insurance sector to cater for the marginalised classes. According to Muzila, the financial sector mainly caters for the formal sector whilst neglecting the unbanked and those working in the informal sector.

Stanbic Bank Botswana Chief Executive Officer Leina Gabaraane says rate cuts by their nature adversely impact on banks' income by eroding interest earned by the institutions.

“We must always remember that reduced bank revenue only impacts on the banks, which are just one of the many components of the ecosystem,” says Gabaraane.

In 2012 the government announced through budget Speech that its wage bill would be reduced annually by 5 percent for the subsequent three years. This was to be partly achieved through outsourcing non-essential services to the private sector as per the advice by the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
