I have demonstrated before that the government of Botswana has never recommended the teaching of minority languages in schools. My position was based on the Government Paper No. 2 of 1994, also known as The Revised National Policy on Education, April 1994.

With no strong warnings to foretell it, Botswana seems to be going through strong headwinds where people quietly rebel against those in power without making too much noise out of it.

In just over a month, Botswana will turn 50 years as an independent country.

Without any emphasis, that should be a big deal for any country.

In the next two months we will be celebrating 50 years of independence as a nation and any reflection of our successes, challenges and failures over the 50 year period can be measured in a variety of ways using a number of measures. The measures we could use will necessarily have to measure how we faired in the areas of democratic and good governance practices.
