One Botswana judge has confessed to being indebted and loyal to President Lt Gen Ian Khama while another has confessed to being prone to influence by mob psychology “which often results in poor decision making.”

 

This emerged in confidential letters addressed to the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) this week as Botswana’s judicial crisis lurches through a comedy of errors.

The outgoing Chief Executive of the Botswana Tourism Organisation (BTO), Thabo Dithebe on Monday admitted that he is stepping down as a result of frustrations that have all to do with operational issues he has been facing at the government owned tourism marketing agent.   

Dithebe on Monday broke his silence by saying there was too much political interference from the ministry.

The mayor of Sowa town, George Maphane is happy that his town council has managed to stem the tide of growing criminal activities in the mining town. Addressing a full council meeting last week Maphane said presently there are no cases of major or serious offences recorded over the period under review, except for a few cases of theft in which the culprit was targeting some town houses.

The Law Society of Botswana has renewed its previous position of calling for Chief Justice Maruping Dibotelo to resign of face impeachment.

The Law Society has gone further and said there is growing evidence that the role of the Chief Justice in the suspension of four judges for receiving housing allowances that were not due to them was actuated by malice.
