Informed Consent - Security Cameras
Publish | January 01, 0001
Is informed consent from individuals being served in an organization required when the organization uses security cameras?
State law and regulation govern the use of video surveillance in businesses and these can vary greatly from state to state. While The Joint Commission patient privacy standards would not require informed consent for the use of security cameras, you should consult legal counsel in your state about any legal requirements for use of security cameras. The use of security cameras should be respectful of the individuals served and take into account the individual's needs for privacy. The individuals served should be informed directly, or by posted signage, by the organization that security cameras are in use.
