Titans Softball Club ladies ruled the National Diamond like Greek mythological gods they are named after this past weekend as they won their games to move up the league log.

A day after convincingly beating Bears 8–3, Titans were at it again on Sunday as they overwhelmed UB Giants 13–1 in a lopsided game.

The weekend wins marked a sharp upturn in the fortunes of Titans ladies, who embarrassingly lost 0–16 to Police IX in their opening game of the season.

Against a dreadful UB Giants on Sunday, it took coach Gopolang Matsila’s drilled Titans ladies exactly three innings to finish off the game, just as the mentor had hoped for.

After restricting UB Giants from registering a run at the top of the first inning, Titans ladies registered five runs at the bottom one to make their intentions clear.

It was more of the same in the second innings as UB Giants ladies yet again failed to deal with Titans pitchers’ balls, failing to register any run while Titans on the other hand registered three more runs to take their lead to 8–0 by the end of the second innings.

Titans then all but extinguished any lingering hopes of a comeback from UB Giants in the third innings as they scored another five runs, just after the latter had failed to make a run at the top of the innings.

Despite UB Giants scoring a single run at the top of the fourth innings, it was not enough as the umpire called game. 

“When we play against a side that we believe is weaker than us, we always strive to finish off the game in less than four innings as a show of superiority,” Matsila explained.

Matsila said knowing that UB Giants were mostly made up of up and coming youngsters, who are also students, they capitalised on their lack of experience to register what was an emphatic win. 

UB Giants Coach Puso Kgosietsile blamed the closure of schools as his team went into the game without some of its regular starters.

“Our team has not been training well as players were writing their examinations. On top of that, schools closed last week Wednesday and we then struggled to make a team. As such, we had to go to some players’ homes to request them to come and help us, just to make a team. Some of them had retired and we had to persuade them to come back,” Kgosietsile explained.

Kgosietsile said with at least four of their key players not around, the team had to use some who had not played ball in a long while, just to make a team for the weekend.
