South African professional boxers under Kalakoda Promotions will arrive in Gaborone sometime in July 2017 to honour late local pro boxer Hebert Nkabiti.

The boxers will take compete in a tribute tournament organised by the said stable.

After a long battle to try and get the Botswana Premier League forensic audit report debated in the open court, former BPL Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Bennett Mamelodi, may finally get his wish.

This past Tuesday (May 2), Mamelodi served the Botswana Football Association (BFA) with court papers showing his intentions to challenge the report.

Gaborone International Meet (GIM) organisers have promised an improved and better event next year.

Formerly known as Sports View International Meet, the GIM was held on April 29 at the National Stadium.

While this year’s event had attracted a good number of high profile athletes from and outside Botswana, it was marred by poor organisation.

In terms of the Liquor Act that was introduced in 2008, an establishment that sells alcohol is not allowed to trade less than 500 metres away from a major road or a school. Armed with this knowledge, Luc Vandecasteele, the Managing Director of Sphinx Associates, the company that owns Molapo Crossing in Gaborone, queried why two such establishments had been given trading licences.

Victory for the Botswana Democratic Party is not inevitable at the next General Elections due in 2019.

If such victory happens, it will be mainly as a result of a weak opposition rather than a strong BDP.

Botswana Federation of Public Sector Union (BOFEPUSU) on Friday took a decision to terminate its membership in the Public Service Bargaining Council (PSBC).

A document from the federation passed to Sunday Standard shows that the union will demand a P4-million refund from PSBC.

“Ladies and gentlemen it looks like we are ready to descend 30 minutes ahead of schedule,” the cabin announcement said.  A cue for me to down the glass of wine I had barely touched.
