Local football was plunged into grief this past Friday following the death of Township Rollers winger Gofaone “The President” Tiro.

The 26-year-old collapsed during his team’s early training session on Friday morning.

While details are still sketchy, there is already swelling opinion that the likeable winger may have died of a possible heart attack or cardiac arrest.

In its latest report, one of the issues that ILO took issue with was the Botswana Government’s decision to refuse to allow prison officers to unionize.

The main opposition party in Mozambique, RENAMO last week attempted to block that country’s President Filepe Nyusi’s visit to Botswana.

Nyusi will undertake a three-day state visit to Botswana from April 24 to 26, 2017. The Botswana government on Friday confirmed the scheduled visit but could not shed light on the attempts made by RENAMO to block Nyusi’s visit.

Police have foiled what could have been a massive prison escape when they arrested a state prosecutor from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) entering prison with a gun.

The firearm was supposed to be used by the inmate to shoot at prison warders in what was a meticulously planned prison break at the Central Prison.

A production report for the first quarter ended March 31, 2017 shows an increase in rough diamond production compared with the corresponding period in 2016. 

According to the report, production in Canada increased by 290 percent to 0.6 million carats because of the contribution of Gahcho Kué, which reached commercial production on March 2, 2017.
