The Board of Directors of Shumba Energy has announced that the company has signed an option to acquire 75 percent of the Morupule South project from Hodges Resources. 

The Morupule South Coal Project is located within the central eastern district of Botswana, directly to the south of the Morupule Colliery.

Latest information suggests that Capital Management Africa (CMA) has acquired Fleming Asset Management Botswana through its subsidiary Capital Management Botswana (CMB) for P22 million.

CMB currently runs Botswana Public Pensions Fund (BPOPF)’s other private equity fund, Botswana Opportunities Fund (BOP) which has grown to P880 million from P500 million.

A January 2017 report by the Standard Bank Group titled ‘Africa Markets Revealed’ posits that Botswana’s economic outlook is “looking up” with some improvements expected ahead. 

The optimistic outlook by the report suggests that the country might possibly have overcome its deepest economic engulfment implying therefore that the worst should not be expected to be lurking.

Ntlo Ya Dikgosi has rejected a motion from Chief Kgosidialwa Moalosi of Tonota region to request government to liaise with local banks to allow pensioners to be granted loans.

Moalosi told members of Ntlo Ya Dikgosi to support his motion arguing that local banks are refusing to assist pensioners particularly after their mandatory retirement at the age of 60 years.

A yearly market performance report compiled by the Botswana Stock Exchange (BSE) indicates from a sectoral perspective the reduction of the listed local banks’ weight to the domestic company Index (DCI). 

The DCI tracks the performance of domestic companies trading on the BSE and contains information on the local bourse between January and December 2016.

The cash-strapped airline that has been receiving substantial funds from government in an effort to bail it out from sinking deeper, is currently running the risk of losing all of it pilots.
