(1965 – Present, Cape Dorset)

The son of noted sculptor Aqjangajuk [Axangayu] Shaa, RCA, Pudlalik began carving when he was just twelve years old. Influenced by watching his father work, Pudlalik carves primarily animal subjects, although he also dabbles with figurative and transformational imagery. Pudlalik’s work is often lively and energetic, with complex, interwoven forms and dramatic compositions. He uses both traditional and modern tools to carve. Pudlalik’s brothers, Alariaq Shaa and the late Qiatsuq Shaa and Qavavau Shaa, were also sculptors.
