United States Coast Guard Auxiliary[edit]

The volunteer United States Coast Guard Auxiliary also uses the USCG officer rank insignia system, albeit modified. USCG Auxiliary officers wear silver braid insignia (referred to as "office insignia") instead of gold; with a "hollow" USCG shield above containing the letters "USCG" superimposed above a red "A" (to signify an appointed officer") or silver "A" (to signify an elected officer). On metal insignia, appointed officers wear a red "A" and elected officers a blue "A."

Though this modified officer ranking system is used, USCG Auxiliary officers do not use rank titles; such as "Lieutenant," "Commander," etc.

Warrant Officer insignia is also not used in the USCG Auxiliary.
