Topeka police have identified a person of interest following a Tuesday night incident in which a man allegedly fired shots at an individual and then led officers on a chase.

Trey A. Patterson, 26, is a person of interest in connection with aggravated assault, felon in possession of a firearm, possession of a stolen firearm, criminal discharge of a firearm and several traffic offenses, Topeka police Lt. Colleen Stuart said.

Around 5:10 p.m. Tuesday, officers responded to the area of S.E. 27th and Illinois after a caller reported being shot at. Soon thereafter, police located a vehicle matching the description of the suspect’s car. Officers saw the man punching a female passenger and tried to pull the driver over. He refused and began a chase. The pursuit ended in the 1900 block of S.E. Colorado where the driver fled on foot. Officers recovered a gun, but didn’t locate the driver.

The passenger, identified as Halie Clinton, 22, was booked into jail in connection with four city warrants, Stuart said.

Any information should be sent to Topeka Detective Jared Strathman at jstrathman@topeka.org.
