Table notesAlthough the headline ranking figures show annual changes in the data, the pattern of clustering among the schools is equally significant. Some 230 points separate the top programme, Kellogg/HKUST Business School, from the school ranked 100th. The top participants from Kellogg/HKUST to MIT's Sloan form the top group. The second group spans from ESCP Europe at 11 down to the programme by WU (Vienna University of Economics and Business)/University of Minnesota's Carlson at 45. The third group is headed by University of Maryland's Smith down to Rutgers Business School at 89. Finally, the bottom 11 schools headed by Tias Business School make up the fourth group. * Programme not fully available in English ‡ No data

1. The average alumni salary three years after graduation. (The 2015 EMBA ranking is based on data for alumni graduating in 2012.) This figure includes alumni salary data for the current year and the one or two preceding years, where available.

2. The percentage increase in average alumni salary from before the EMBA to today as a percentage of the pre-EMBA salary. This figure includes data for the current year and the one or two preceding years, where available.

3. This is calculated according to changes in the level of seniority and the size of the company alumni are working in now versus before their EMBA. Data for the current year and the one or two preceding years are included where available.

4. This measures the previous experience of EMBA participants by examining seniority of positions held, number of years in each position, size of company, and any international work experience prior to starting the EMBA.

5. The percentage of faculty whose citizenship differs from their country of employment

6. The percentage of the board whose citizenship differs from the country in which the business school is based

7. International course experience: The percentage of classroom teaching hours that are carried out outside the country in which the business school is situated. The data is presented as a rank and the top position is one.

8. Number of languages students are required to speak on graduation.

9. The percentage of faculty with a doctoral degree

10. This is calculated according to the number of faculty publications in 50 international academic and practitioner journals. Points are accrued by the business school at which the author is currently employed. The total is weighted for faculty size.
