Europe dominates as USA steps in to host

The 2003 final was a celebration of all that is right about football. The match was fast, thrilling, skilful and dramatic. It was a genuine feast of attacking football and physical determination. A new champion was crowned in the form of Germany, inspired by the performances of Golden Ball and Golden Boot winner Birgit Prinz, who sealed victory in the final thanks to Nia Kunzer's golden goal.
