THE ROAD

TO FRANCE

Argentina finished third at the 2018 Copa America Femenina and had to contest an intercontinental play-off against Panama. Following a 4-0 win in Buenos Aires and a 1-1 draw in the away leg, they celebrated their return to the Women's World Cup after an absence of 12 years.

THE COACH

Carlos Borrello

In charge of the national team between 2003 and 2012, Carlos Borrello was responsible for both of Argentina’s Women's World Cup appearances to date and its only title (2006 Copa America Femenina). He came back to the position in July 2017, just in time to book the ticket to France 2019 and start the rebuild of La Albiceleste.

THE STAR

Estefania Banini

The Argentinian captain is a skilful right-footed midfielder who won the Copa Libertadores Femenina title with Chilean club Colo-Colo in 2012 and competed in the USA before moving to La Liga in Spain. The playmaker has a powerful shot from outside the area, which is an important attacking asset.
