BEHIND

THE

CELEBRATIONS

Goals, gestures and

the stories behind them...

70'

into the opening match of the world cup, Artem Dzyuba came off the bench. 60 seconds later, he'd scored Russia's 3rd goal of the night. Stanislav Cherchesov was so impressed he saluted his player. Dzyuba returned the compliment when he next scored against Egypt, and then again against Spain.

Griezmann Takes the L

Turns out the France #7 is a big fan of the Fortnite video game. So much so that after he scored the penalty against Argentina he broke into “Take the L” dance (Take the loss, savour the win) a staple celebration in the game.

“It was a joke I made with Quaresma…I started to shave. I left my beard and said if I score tomorrow, which was against Spain, I’d leave it for the rest of the tournament. And it gave me luck, I scored in that game, I scored today and I’m going to keep it.”

Cristiano Ronaldo

Mbappe's

When scoring goals playing FIFA against his big brother, 12-year-old Ethan Mbappe would drop the remote to the floor, pout stone faced and fold his hands under his armpits. Mbappe took it from the couch to the biggest stage in the world.

"I dedicate my goals to my grandmother. She took to me to football but now she can't see how far I have come. Nevertheless, she continues to help me and my family,"

Goal, Goal

Kiss, Kiss

The adidas golden boot contender kept it simple but sweet in Belgium’s opener against Panama. On scoring his 2nd of the night, Lukaku lip-synced the word ‘mama’, before kissing his palm twice and pointing towards the camera.

The Senegalese shake

Mbaye Niang's match winner against Poland, was his first ever goal for Senegal. Enough to get the whole team shaking.

Colombian Choreography

Yerry Mina scored the winning goal in Colombia's 1-0 win over Senegal, and then the unforgettable injury time equaliser against England in the Round of 16. The celebrations following these goals have quickly become fan favourites.
