FRANCE 2019

Carli Lloyd

Roars to Life

The USA icon has done just about everything on a football pitch. She's a:

  • FIFA Women's World Cup Champion (2015)
  • 2x FIFA Player of the Year (2015, 2016)
  • 2x Olympic Gold Medalist (2008, 2012)
  • adidas Golden Ball Winner (2015)
  • She scored THAT goal in the Canada 2015 Final...

But despite scoring a goal in the opener against Thailand, she did not start, and some thought the 36-year-old might play a smaller role for the USA at France 2019

But called on by coach Jill Ellis for the full 90 minutes in the second contest against Chile, the captain was rampant in the first half and re-wrote some records...

She became:

  • The 1st player to score in 6 consecutive Women's World Cup matches
  • The 9th player to score at least 10 goals in Women's World Cup history
  • The second oldest goal-scorer in the event's history (only Brazil's Formiga was older)
I've showed up every single day in training and been the hardest working player I could possibly be. I've been respectful of [the coach's] decisions, but when my chances have come I've tried to seize those and take my opportunities

The always competitive Lloyd did just that
