Block or unblock people's accounts

You can avoid unwanted interactions by blocking other users in certain Google products, like Hangouts or Photos. Blocking takes effect when these people are signed in to their Google Account. 

To block another person's account, use the "Block" action in one of these products.

Use Hangouts to block an account

When you block someone in Hangouts, that person's account is also blocked in all products listed in "Block an account."

Blocks don't apply to Hangouts On Air. Learn more about blocking users in Hangouts.

Use Google Photos to block an account

When you block someone in Google Photos, that person's account is also blocked in all products listed in "Block an account."

Use Google Maps to block an account

When you block someone in Google Maps, that person's account is also blocked in all products listed in "Block an account."

Note: You can only block through Google Maps on a mobile device.

  1. Open the Google Maps app Google Maps.
  2. At the top left, tap Menu Menu.
  3. Select Location sharing.
  4. Tap a person you’re sharing with.
  5. Tap More Moreand then Block and then Block.
Use YouTube to block an account

When you block someone in YouTube through their channel or a live chat, that person's account isn't blocked in any other products.

When you block a YouTube contact, that person's account is also blocked in all products listed in "Block an account."

Use Google Pay India to block an account

When you block someone in Google Pay India, that person's account is also blocked in all products listed in "Block an account."

See blocked accounts or unblock someone

  1. Go to your Google Account.
  2. On the left navigation panel, click People & sharing.
  3. On the Contacts panel, click Blocked.
  4. You'll see a list of accounts you've blocked across Google products. To unblock someone, next to that person's name, select Remove Remove

Note: The "Blocked users" list doesn't include:

  • Accounts blocked through YouTube channels or live chat
  • Blocks of email addresses or phone numbers

Block an email address or phone number

In some Google products, you can block an email address or phone number. For example, you can:

Non-account blocks like these don't show up on the Blocked users section of your Google Account. They also don't take effect across Google products.
